| When a privacy fenced is used (usually 72" tall or higher) and the 2" x 4" support "stringers" are visible, it is advisable to construct the fence with these support strings facing the pool, thus eliminating the "ladder" effect from outside of the fence. The "show-side" or "finished-side" would be on the outside of the framework, facing the neighbor.
When a spaced picket fence is used and the distance between support stringers is less than 45", the stringers shall be located on the pool side of the fence; spacing of vertical fence boards should not exceed 1 3/4" in width.
When a spaced picket fence is used and the spacing between the support stringers is 45" or more, spacing between the boards should not allow passage of a 4" diameter sphere.
Where the fence is constructed of diagonal members, such as a lattice fence, the maximum opening formed by the diagonal members should be no more than 1 3/4".
Pedestrian access gates shall open outwards away from the pool and should be equipped with "self-closing" hinges, and have a "self-latching" device constructed to accept a lock.
When vehicle access gates are used, they should be equipped with a self-latching device and with a locking device, and kept locked when not in use.
When the fence is 60" tall or higher. Latches and handles should be installed at least 54" from the bottom of the gate.
The fence and gates should have no more than a 2" clearance from the bottom of the fence to the ground, wall, or deck surface. |
